Abarenbou Kishi! Matsutarou episode 1 [First Impression]: Sunday Morning Cartoon

Abarenbou Rikishi!! Matsutarou blocking road

Let me start with the very beginning, this show art and animation is absolutely terrible. I feel like I’m watching an old american cartoon. I think Lucky Luke was animated better than this show. I have a really hard time understanding how this show even came to be. It is rather rough. I don’t know if it is because of the jokes, the art style or simply because it is true, but this show reminds me of the kind of cartoon you would see on sunday morning back before I even joined this world.

I don’t think this show is all bad, there is some sense of humour in there, but everything is so rough and so old in the way it is presented that it makes it extremely difficult to watch this show. I won’t spend forever describing this, I don’t think this show has what it takes to be seen for other sake than some kind of nostalgia. Here is a list of shows this reminds me of: Lucky Luke, Popeye, Garfield and all the other cartoon of that time. If you enjoy those kind of silly cartoon, you might like Abarenbou Kishi! Matsutarou, but this show doesn’t feel like an anime one bit. This might be japanese in nature, but it definitively doesn’t feel like a anime more than a simple cartoon.

Abarenbou Rikishi!! Matsutarou little drive

I won’t be watching this show, or anything, I’m not even sure I should be reviewing the first episode as this feel like it should be a 5 minute show, not a full length production. I still have trouble believing someone though something like this could be popular and appreciated, but what do I know about Japanese trends. Hopefully there is some good backstory for this character, because otherwise this is just one huge waste of time. Abarenbou Kishi! Matsutarou is a no-go.
