Chihayafuru 2 episode 20: Injury

chihayafuru injury

Summary

After the final match, Mizusawa picks up their trophy and Chihaya uses wastes this time wisely not to remember the good times of the tournament. After this she goes to get her finger checked out, where the doctor tells her to let it heal a bit and not to do anything too intense with it. With this in mind, Chihaya decides that she will play the individual tournaments with her left hand, and her match against Keiko begins as she gets destroyed.chihayafuru ow

Impression

This episode was soooo slooooooooow…

I expected it to be an in-between where no matches would happen, but I’ll admit I thought that at least Chihaya would have some sweet conversation with Arata or maybe even the Queen about the next day’s matches… Nope. Instead, we got stuck with flashbacks and preparation for yet another match. I swear, I really would have skipped the whole middle part of the episode…

chihayafuru arata smileWe did get a few good bits of information, however. I was glad to know that Arata has a possibility of going back to Tokyo, just like I thought he had decided. It would be absolutely awesome for him to do so; unfortunately, the condition for that to be fulfilled is that he has to win the individual tournaments now… Which is, quite frankly, very easy to see as an impossible task, with the Queen being there and all. Now, whether he’ll win and actually fulfill his goal, whether he’ll change his mind and still go back none the less or whether he’ll just lose and do nothing about it, that’s something we can only find out as the episodes go on. I hope Chihaya learns of this… Honestly, the more this show goes on and the more I believe that just nothing will happen between them for the sole reason that they are so completely apart from each other, it’s just impossible for them to actual do anything like a confession. They’ve barely ever had a full conversation so far… *sigh*

Moving on, the fact that Chihaya is still playing in the individual tournaments makes me happy yet a bit disappointed, too. I’m glad that she’s not skipping out on it like I thought she would at first, but I can also clearly see that her left hand isn’t suited for karuta; she’s just not going to perform as much as she would. Which means she probably won’t get anywhere… and it annoys me. I would have much rather seen her playing with her full potential rather than just with one hand like this, when she can’t even get cards form a player she would normally destroy. I hope that I will see things changing at least a little, like seeing her still use her right hand when the time comes, or something…

chihayafuru queen determinedFinally, it seems like the Queen definitely got her spirits up to prove to herself that team karuta is nothing. It seems like she’s trying to tell everyone that individual tournaments is the shit, but to be honest, it’s clear that her barrier has simply started to fade away and now she’s scared to let it down completely; she’s trying to prove to herself that team karuta isn’t fun because she was alone so much as she grew up. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her development throughout this next tournament… I’m glad we get to know a lot more about her now.
