Welcome to the wonderful and cheerful world of Escha & Logy no Atelier: Tasogare no Sora no Renkinjutsushi, where the characters have 2 syllables name and the title is never ending. We join the Research and Development division of a small village were it seems no research is done, and were the story doesn’t produce any development. The show is very serene, there seem to be no tension and no conflict anywhere we look at. There is only happiness and amazement all around. The show is a simple fantasy romance that seems to draw upon the discovery of the world and the cheerfulness of the characters.
The show certainly seems to do a good show in creating a eerie and rural feeling, where the world is simple and everyone is smiling. In the future it is made evident that the floating ruins will play a more important part of the story, maybe even some small conflict with the central will occur because of the carefree nature of the people in the village, but in the end it really seem like this show won’t be dramatic or complex in any way. It is something rather light and beautiful for people to appreciate the mundanity of life in a fantasy world.
The show will develop mostly on its characters and there is evidence from the opening that there will be tons of characters introduce into the show. Therefore even when it comes to character development don’t expect too much depth and complexity, the show has a very child like approach to its story where everything is simple and taken at face value. I am certain that many people will find this form of story telling refreshing and enjoyable in its own right, but for me this simple approach is rather boring.
I look forward to complexity and depth, I want conflict and drama, therefore this show represents just about everything I found boring in life. If I really wanted a story like this, I would just run away to live in the woods the rest of my life, enjoying the little things in life. I am not such a person, I thrives for complicated situations and stimulating competition. Escha & Logy no Atelier: Tasogare no Sora no Renkinjutsushi looks like a good show, but it is not something that can easily caught on with everyone. Only a small selected audience can watch this show and enjoy its simplicity. For people like me, the show looks only like a children’s tale made for the simple-minded. I won’t be watching the show this season, but I’m sure many others will and won’t find the show has boring as I did.
