We sure are starting the season strong with Fate/Stay Night, the show has not even officially started yet, we are only at episode zero and there is so many things happening that it is difficult to keep track of it all. First of all I must say I am really thrilled that we are starting the season with 1-hour specials. Even more so that we even get a pre-episode that gives us a slow transition into this Holy Grail. Having this longer episode really helped me get back into the atmosphere and tempo of the Fate universe. It will also be great to have episode 1 and 2 combined into yet another 1-hour special next week. Every time I get 4 week work of content in 2 weeks, I cannot help but be thrilled. It just makes it better that they are longer cut of such an amazing show as Fate/Stay Night.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works Tohsaka 2

Enough with my praise of the show, I want to get straight to the juicy juicy details, It was difficult but fun to go back into this universe and try to remember the relationship with every characters. It was also rather ironic that everyone was assigned the same Class as their father or other relative had received in the past. It really didn’t come as a surprise to see Tohsaka get Archer, it even felt rather fitting. I just cannot wait to get more into the story and see who are the 7 Masters and who are their servants. I think it is one of the most fun and exciting part of the show to learn about all of them and their powers. My first impression so far is that everyone seem very alike their Fate/Zero counterpart. Saber is obviously the same as in Fate/Zero. Lancer, despite not mentioning his name, is visually both in appearance and weaponry, the same person. The only Servant so far that isn’t the same as the one in Fate/Zero (as far as I can tell) is Archer. Archer doesn’t remember his name, but he doesn’t look like Gilgamesh from the prequel. Archer does have a very similar ability than the one of Gilgamesh though. We didn’t see Archer completely in action yet, but he obviously uses daggers and he is able to summon them at will. I have a feeling that Archer is probably some notorious knife thrower, but I wouldn’t have any idea who that could be from my knowledge of fantasy and history alone. It really annoys me that Archer is unable to remember who he is, Tohsaka and him are obviously going one of the main focus of the show, so it is frustrating that we don’t have any information about the first and main servant in the show.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works independant

Obviously, this was episode 0. This episode is meant as an introduction, a small prequel to everything that will happen in Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. It is therefore not such an upset that no major information was leaked during the episode. I must admit I am even a bit surprised that we got to see so many servants and battles in just this first episode. I wasn’t expecting anything more than some formal introduction but we really got into tense battles and the live or death situation of the Holy Grail. I cannot overstate how hyped and excited I am for this new season, It is by far my most anticipated show for the Fall and even with an introductory episode it was able to exceed all my expectations. I just want more already and I cannot wait for next saturday to come along !

Actually, it’s just episode 1 being as long as episode 0 here. Episode 2 will come out in two weeks. Nitpicky details, I know.

“Lancer, despite not mentioning his name, is visually both in appearance and weaponry, the same person. ”

Weapon, okay, does look the same. But appearance? He doesn’t have the same voice, he doesn’t act like FZ-Lancer and more importantly, he doesn’t look like that Lancer at all>/i>. I really can’t understand why people think this is the same Heroic Spirit. It is definitely not.

In the case of Lancer, I did notice that his personality was completely different, I simply assumed that his new master influenced him heavily in the way he acted, but between http://0-gate.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Lancer.png and http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140825094957/agk/images/a/aa/Fate_zero_-_04-5.jpg, it is very difficult, to me at least, to immediately realize those two are not the same. Add in the time since I last saw Fate/Zero and my memories of Lancer matches completely with the new one. Now that you have pointed it out though, I am able to see the slight differences between the two physically speaking, but I really don’t feel bad for not noticing before, because unless I had been playing my little game of spot the difference, I would have never noticed those two are different.

Well, the mole played an important role in FZ-Lancer’s case and is a part of his legend, so if it really was the same guy, Rin would have had to defend herself against his face already.

Side info: Red eyes in general are an indication that someone might be of divine nature (in a status page, that would look like this, I’ve uploaded both status pages for Rider and Archer in FZ: http://imgur.com/m8r26mv,7StEJO4)

Rider and Archer in Fate/Zero possessed Divinity Rank C and B respectively. Not every divine person has the red eyes, but this is the case for these two. FZ-Lancer was a “normal” human.

It boggles me that people think its the same person.
Different looks, different voice, different personality. Isn’t that enough proof?
It’s almost like people will start calling FSN berserker Lancelot because its a loli master and not a worm-riddled Matou.

          • Myst says:

The main reason why we tend to go towards that idea is because of the similarity of the weapon, and because, although their personalities were completely different, they both came forward and started the first match. Although they are not the same, it raises questions that maybe they are, although there are a bunch of obvious differences. The same idea goes with Archer, who obviously has a different character design than Gilgamesh but spawns weapons in basically the same way. Moreover, with the appearance of Saber being exactly the same, it raises doubts that maybe more than one hero is the same as he was in FZ.

Obviously now I realize that they are different, especially with FSN Lancer lacking the mole on his face, but it’s not so surprising to accidentally mix them up.
