I must admit this episode of No Game No Life was a bit on the slow side. After the last few episode this episode, especially the beginning, felt a bit dragged on. I understand the importance of setting the characters and the preparation before the fight, but we already had a good introduction of Zell and I didn’t feel particularly interested in her emotional state. I know her relationship with Fi was important,  but I didn’t need to know THAT much about it, the two of them will remain side characters after all. I felt the episode was closer to a soft comedy relief to make us calm down before a storm more than anything else. We are in the final straight, the only thing left before the end is this final challenge which will decide the fate of Imanity. The next two episode will be fought in the virtual reality of Tokyo.

There are a couple things that bothered me this episode which I would like to talk about. First, at some point they mention that the Warbeast have an ability called Blood Destruction. This is something that bothers me quite a bit, because we were never told about this ability before. We had a great overview of the Warbeast where we were told all their advantages, their history and everything. But as far as I can remember, never was Blood Destruction ever mentioned before. It feels a bit weird to have a new ability sprung up like that without any explication of it. Even this episode, they didn’t give us any clue as to what “Blood Destruction” could possibly mean, it was just stated out of the blue. This just feel really odd when you are presented with that new ability like that.

No Game No Life Zell and Fi

Second thing that bothered me this episode was the importance given to Zell and Fi despite their minimal involvement in this plan. I understand why it was necessary to have an Elf there to protect them against the use of magic, but her actual role in this is extremely limited considering all she does is sit there and watch. Was it really necessary to go through such length of introduction for characters which had such a minimal role to play this season? I understand how it was nice to learn how Zell and Fi got to be friends and work together, it was interesting to learn of Fi’s position in Elven society…but I really didn’t need all the fake drama memories between those two to understand their relationship. I felt it simply dragged the episode needlessly.

Overall the episode was still fine, the ending was great and leave us into an interesting competition. I am certain that the final 2 episodes won’t disappoint, I am looking forward to the competition and seeing Shiro and Sora’s strength once again. Blank never loses after all !
