I am not the greatest fan of sketch show comedy, I was aware that Gugure! Kokkuri-san was a very popular manga, but I have a lot of trouble finding the Japanese traditional humour to be funny in any way. Usually the jokes just deflects on me and I am unable to appreciate the content of the show. It wasn’t the case with Gugure! Kokkuri-san, not only did I like the episode, not only did I appreciate the jokes, but I laughed all the way through. It is difficult to say how much I liked the anime for what it was. The concept is rather simple, you put a couple of very interesting and extreme character with crazy personalities and you bunch them up together into a small house. It has been done times and times again, it is not a new concept, but when it is done right, as is the case here, it is hilarious.
I can really see this show having enough content to keep things interesting for quite some time, I don’t see it fall flat halfway through the season or anything, I’d really recommend it as a solid sketch comedy anime. Despite all my praise though, I am afraid it will suffer the same fate that most anime in this genre has. I will start watching it, I will enjoy every single episodes, but suddenly I will stop following it one week and forget it ever existed.Without any story or universe to feel attached to and to want to explore, without any cliffhanger and future discovery, it is very difficult to come back every week to watch a show. I know it is going to be funny, I know I will have a great time, but I have no incentive to watch it, my curiosity doesn’t take the better of me.
I do recommend this anime to everyone, it is funny, it is accessible, I think the humour is pretty universal. I will not however be blogging it this season since there is very little to talk about and discuss with a show that is all about making jokes. I will however be watching it, at least until I suddenly forget it exists never to complete it.
