Hataraku Maou-sama! episode 11: Betrayal and Duty

Hataraku Maou-sama! suzuno

Only 2 episodes left and it shows, everyone are now showing their true colours and intentions. I must admit that I like the way things are turning out with the allegiance a lot more than I believed I would at first. It is comforting that Suzuno decided to betray both Emilia and Chiho to fulfill her duty to kill Maou. I also found quite interesting to learn Suzuno’s background as an assassin. It was already known that she was an inquisitor, but I never imagined that she used to perform those kinds of “inquisition”. To be honest I know very little about religion in real life, so maybe the church of old used to do similar thing, wouldn’t surprise me in the least, but I think the church on Ente Isla is just as corrupted as any other evil organization in the world.

Now it seems that we will have some kind of battle scenario that will be akin to what we saw in the middle of the season, to be honest I feel like I had too much hope for this show as it turned out to be a lot more boring than what I anticipated. Most episodes felt filler-ish and it seems that only half of the episodes were actually meaningful in the end. I really wish the show could have taken itself a bit more seriously, I would have totally watched the same show but with a more solid story and serious atmosphere. I would have also watched it if the comedy aspect was more central to the show and not just something which came and went throughout the harem and romance. At certain point I felt like I was watching a romcom more than anything else, which is quite disappointing for me since I ‘m not a real fan of that genre.

At last we have 2 more episodes to see some kind of epic battle and a fail ending to this story, I can already smell the unfinished harem ending from a mile away. Now I must say that while I am disappointed with the show and had hoped for more, I can’t say that I hate the show because of it either, it is still better than most generic crap, but I feel like Hataraku Maou-sama! can be compared to generic crap because it is one too. Nonetheless generic crap always prove popular to some specific audience and therefore I have no doubt that many people are thoroughly enjoying this show, even though we had to wait about 5 episodes since the last events and “story” happened.
