Hyperdimension Neptunia is a show that parodies the different major video game companies as kawai shoujo who lead nations and wage war on each other. This isn’t something really new since not even a year ago we had a show of similar taste, Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de, the difference this time around is that the video game companies and console seems to be at the centre of the parody more than the game characters themselves. The story is all about the different companies trying to keep their share in peaceful ways by improving on their “country”.
The show was quite pretty, but I feel like it is just nowhere good enough to make use of its parody. The universe the show is set in is a bit boring, the characters are sexually exposed and yet so innocent and the “story” isn’t very present because the show is too busy picturing the video game world into anime to actually care about any real development or making anything worth watching really. I can’t really say that the show was bad either, there was nothing inherently wrong with it, but there was nothing entertaining or fun about it either. I just feel like I’m watching something without meaning and I have not been able to get into the show what so ever. The ecchi was ordinary is existent at all, the fantasy elements were really weak and the action was weak and felt like a joke. In the end the show is interesting for the first 5 minutes and the rest of the episode starts to feel a bit boring from there as there was just nothing new and interesting to add to the universe or the parody.
After the first 5 minutes you can pretty much consider the show to be just a childish and boring fantasy action anime, the parody had no part in the show after that except for the name of the characters. I never though I would say that, but I think that Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de was a much better parody of the video game world than this show will ever be. I won’t be watching this show or blogging it, I don’t think I can really recommend this show to anyone, the concept is pretty neat and I might reference it in the future, but you get bored of it quickly. So quickly in fact that I didn’t even had time to finish the episode that I was over it. For those reasons I wouldn’t recommend this show since its main selling point isn’t worth paying a damn for.
P-S sorry for bad screenshot quality, but the show was only available in 360p.
