The drama and psychological horror is really starting to shine in the latest episodes. If the first few episodes were more about action and science-fiction, it seems pretty obvious that now we will enter more into the core of the horror itself. It is already pretty scary to have a hand that moves and think on its own, but things really goes up a notch when your mother comes back from a trip, killed your father and has now pierced through your stomach, suddenly it might become more difficult to deal with the reality of the world you live in.

Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu can't accept the truth

If there is one thing I really got this episode though, it is how weak-minded Shinichi actually is. The guy might want to save everyone and be a hero who stand up for the weak…but he is pretty weak himself. I am not talking about his physical strength here, but rather his mental tenacity. I understand how surreal and crazy everything is around him, but at the end of the day he has to adapt and accept the new reality he has been thrown in because nothing he will ever think or do change anything about it. When he saw his mother, it is normal to be shocked, but he had way enough clues in front of him to be absolutely certain that the person in front of him was not his mother. If my mother started talking in a very strong voice, with her eyes rolling around and scythes coming out of her head…I wouldn’t really try to understand if she was my mother or not. This is a prime zombie scenario, that person is not the one you loved anymore, kill it and then mourn the death of the person, not the other way around. That parasite seemed really lousy, it barely had control over the body of its host, they could have defeated it so easily.

Instead, now Shinichi has a big hole in his body and I’m sure it is not something that will be that easy to fix. It is quite obvious the guy won’t die or anything, but having a scythe piercing through me after learning my mother died certainly wouldn’t be the brightest day of my life. He certainly makes his own life difficult, first by getting into fights he has no way of winning and now getting stabbed by his own mother, he will have to change, psychologically speaking, if he hopes to live for another year. At this rate he won’t live for very long.

If there is one thing that positively surprised me though is how much restraint Migi showed when Shinichi was getting destroyed by his fellow schoolmates. I was expecting for Migi to come out at any moment and kill everyone, I did not realize that his little hand could show this much restraint, It really goes to show how much leeway Migi gives for Shinichi to be happy. I do not know if it is intentional, but Shinichi really has a lot of control over the situation despite having an alien arm. At the end of the day, I think Shinichi really got the better end of the deal here. Now I’m just waiting to see him take advantage of it.
