I was waiting for this day and it has finally come, the Fall 2013 anime season is upon us. Kyoukai no Kanata was one of the first new show to air and it is exactly what one would hope a Fall show to look like. The show looks absolutely gorgeous, the characters are deep and interesting and the universe the story is set in is both diverse and new. This show is everything there is to love about anime, a beautiful match up of genre between slice of life and supernatural.
From the first second of the show you can easily understand the intelligence of the narrative in Kyoukai no Kanata, the show takes a really open approach to the story telling with a main character who himself see his life like a book and narrates it as such. The two form of narrative during the show manages to keep things fresh, from a more global and detach voice of the main character train of thought to the regular conversational anime, Kyoukai no Kanata simply has amazing ways to keep things fresh and interesting and to give amazing perspective.
Now, the show itself seems to be a very interesting and refreshing mix between a supernatural show akin to a more mature mahou shoujo theme and a regular school life slice of life anime. The school life part is really emotional and intelligent and I would consider this show to be aimed at an older audience as both content and presentation are definitively well-thought out and deep. The soundtrack for the show as been quite pleasing up to now and as previously said, the show looks visually stunning. From the creepy looking monster to the marvelous flowers and glitter in the eyes of the character, the show keeps you in a constant state of awe.
I highly recommend this show to any fan of slice of life and/or supernatural, it is a high budget high quality production and boy does it seems it is worth the watch. With what as been shown already anyone can already tell that the show will be great from A to Z, it is rather difficult to crash a slice of life anime after all.
For my part I won’t be blogging or watching this show, unfortunately I dislike slice of life like there is no tomorrow and even more so for school life. My dislike of the genre didn’t make me hate on the show though as it was definitively something worth watching for anyone who are into those genre and I will recommend this show to friends who I am sure will be able to appreciate it to its full potential.
