I’m sure this show will be extremely popular among girls, unfortunately Myst was unavailable to give her first impression on Shingatsu wa Kimi no Uso, so you’ll have to have the first impression of a bitter old man who hates everything good and happy in this world. Let me first say that while I enjoy romance and drama anime, I hate musical and school anime, so Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso was definitively not my best match when it comes to interest. I must admit of being bored out of my mind for most of the episode.
The positive things I have to say about this anime are all pretty obvious for the genre. It has a good soundtrack, the music selection for the episode was interesting and fit with the theme well. The main character seemed to have enough depth to give some interesting character development throughout the season, but I really can’t say it is a mystery to know what will happen. It is episode one and I can already say with certainty that the main character will fall for the new girl and will learn to discover himself and love music once again. The guy will find a new way to do music that doesn’t involve doing it for someone else and he will be able to realize what he likes and who he is as a person. With this sudden change he will become more confident and more aware of what he wants. He will therefore become more attractive and the new girl will finally fall for him and they will be together.
Here you go, no need to watch the show anymore, you can now safely ignore this anime and go back to more intense and intriguing stories. I know those words won’t reach the desperately romantic fangirl out there, but at least I tried. The anime seem so shallow it is difficult to understand what the big deal is about this genre. It is undeniable that, thus far, the new girl was the shallowest girl alive and the main character, while having some issues to face, remains extremely simple in his character. Self-discovery is good, but it isn’t enough to make a good anime if there is only one character making any progress at all.
I probably won’t come to a surprise that I won’t be watching Shingatsu wa Kimi no Uso this Fall, I have no interest in the show, but I would still suggest the show to anyone who enjoys musical and romance, the show seem to follow those genre pretty well and I’m sure plenty will be quite happy to see a new musical after a couple season in which they were nonexistent.
