The one week break from the recap is over, we now have a new opening, a new ending a new beginning. I’m really excited by the way things are continuing and while this episode was completely action-less I loved it as it showed a lot of inside information about the inner working of the human society and who holds power and money to make the decisions that controls their political and military operations. Let’s begin by looking at the new opening and ending and then we’ll talk about the episode itself.
While I think that the song for the new opening isn’t as powerful as the previous one (It was really difficult to beat after all), I think that overall I like this opening better than the other one, just because the animation flows a lot better with the song this time around and it creates a completely fantastic combination. The music is one thing but what really makes or break an opening is how synchronized and how well they work with each other. The song isn’t half bad either, it is just not as great as the perfectly epic song we had before. Meanwhile the ending was a little bit disappointing, just because while it was really good it felt a little weak and less epic than it should have been for a show so good as Shingeki no Kyojin. I simply expected a lot more from it and it didn’t manage to meet my expectations one bit.
Now, into the episode itself. It was fun to see a little change of pace from human fighting titan to human fighting human. It was a really nice touch to let us dive a little deeper into the working of the society in Shingeki no Kyojin because Eren is completely oblivious to it and we never before had a chance to really understand how stuff works for normal people who don’t turn into titans for a living. Turns out that there are 3 major power that fight to keep control on society, the military under the King’s rule, the trader and the priests. The King’s intention seems rather difficult to be known for now, we only know that he plans on remain in power and keep order in the streets. The traders and priests on the other hand have a really straight forward objectives, the trader wants to protect their assets and own interest and the priests are aiming to gain power among the people and by following their own religious agenda. We might never get a chance to learn more about those different groups because Eren will be somewhat banished outside of the walls, but the quick peak sure was fun. It was also extremely fun to see Eren insult all of those powerful man when his life was on the line. In the end the recon corp got what they wanted and humanity might very well have a chance at regaining wall Maria now that Eren is on their side.
I’m looking forward to the next episode as we will be introduced to a whole new set of weird and weirder character. I’m pretty sure a super crazy impulsive girl and a sniffing soldier where but the peak of the iceberg with the Recon Corp. Hopefully Eren won’t die on his first field trip.
