We are once again into an arc that is a bit more filler-ish, that doesn’t contain as much action and progression into the story, but still manages to be entertaining. Now I did say filler-ish, but you can’t possibly consider those episode actual filler since there is a lot of character development and discovery of the universe going on. Now, onto what caught my interest this episode.
First of, We learned so much about the Titans this time around, I think we were never able to have someone close to a scientist explain to us this much about Titans. We always knew that Eren’s father was a scientist and he most likely researched Titans to be able to transform Eren like that, but we never got to learn anything he discovered yet. All we had in term of information was what we could see in the midst of combat and the small things we’ve learned during the training camp, but this time we actually have someone who tries to understand the Titans and not just kill them. It was interesting to learn that they were a lot less active during the night and that it was possible that to stop their exposition to sunlight for a prolonged amount of time would kill them. There was also no mention before of how light they were compared to their size, I figured that the show was simply a fantasy and never tried to put science into anything, but with all those new discovery, I might do otherwise in the future.
Eren was able to materialize a Titan’s body from thin air, Titans are lighter than they should be, Titans only need sunlight to survive, there is some deep connection between light and Titans and maybe this is a weakness that could be exploited by mankind to vanquish them. Then again, we know so little so far that I can only speculate some wild theories that are quite pointless for now, so instead I’ll go to a completely different thing that I found quite interesting this episode: Commander Erwin.
That guy doesn’t look like much from afar, but he is most definitively intelligent and trying something. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if there was some kind of coup d’état going on soon enough lead by the scouting division, it just seems like there is a great division between those who fight outside the walls and those who “protect the peace”. I just feel like a civil war is more likely to happen than Titan coming through the walls again, there seems to be a lot of balance trouble between the king’s faction, the traders and the new religion that as sprung up, if things keeps up I’m afraid Eren might have better chance to be assassinated by religious zealot than eaten by a Titan. I just feel like the next few episode might contain action and violence, but between human rather than between human and Titan, which is kind of sad, it is really sad to see humanity fight among each other when they are already on the brink of extinction.
I guess there is no fighting nature, we are stupid beasts after all, but I can’t wait to learn more about the Titans and to understand what they are exactly. Hopefully we get most things answered before the end of this show…hopefully.
