We are one episode away from the final of the first season of Shingeki no Kyojin and at this point I’m really curious to the kind of ending we will get next week. It is still quite possible that Annie won’t die from what is about to happen and that instead she will be either captured or she will manage to escape once more. I would find it rather sad if she actually died, since after that she is the only one right now who can answer anything about what is going on with the human-Titan business. There is most definitively something wrong going on somewhere but we still have so little clue as to what it is all about.
This episode was a little slow when it came to the story or action, we barely got to see any combat or learn anything new. The episode was mostly about the mental development of Eren and see him finally overcome the fact that he needs to kill someone he used to see every day. You have to remember that he did spend many years with her in the same training squad and that therefore he was really close to her and everyone else who became a soldier with him.
This episode is rather difficult to like or dislike, it was necessary to see those things, but at the same time I feel like the episode could have went by faster and jumped more quickly into the action, it was rather slow compared to what I’m used of Shingeki no Kyojin. I think I might either love or hate the final episode too depending on what the outcome is more than anything else. I’m really afraid that they could butcher the whole show if things don’t end on a real final note. This aside, next episode should be really entertaining episode wise no matter what happens next, the last battle between Eren and Annie was powerful enough as it is, if the whole Recon Corp joined in this should make Annie sweat quite a bit.
With all this, the only thing that really stood out from this episode is how corrupt and useless the royal guards are. They might be the best, but their lack of experience is clearly showing. Their job is to protect the inner city and everyone there and they are not moving an inch after a Titan showed up in the middle of their city. You can clearly see how secure every there is if something is to happen, this beautiful bunch of guards will just stand there and look baffled while everyone gets eaten. I mean if I were the king I would have some problem with their behaviour and visible lack of competence, but that’s just me, I like the idea of living a long and prosperous life. I guess we will see what kind of scolding they will get for their obvious lack of action in such a situation.
