Shokugi no Soma is definitively an anime without equals, its intensity is incredible and the concept so original that it is impossible to consider this to be anything else than a masterpiece. I would have never thought I would like a show about cooking so much, but it is really entertaining and I see myself watching it to the end without much effort.
This episode our main character finally got his admission into the best culinary school in Japan and he even got to have the greatest taste tester in the community to approve of his meal. Even if he didn’t know who it was that was testing his meal, I can appreciate his love to have people lose control and beg in front of him to eat only a bite more. The sense of control and power you exert over someone that mix with their satisfaction and the confirmation of your talents. Soma has it good, he has not even started school and he already appears to be more talented than just about every other prospective student that were present at this entrance exam. I’m sure we’re in for some great confrontation between the very provocative Soma and the extremely prideful Erina. Their relationship will most likely quickly evolves into something more akin of a romance, there is just so much foreshadowing about it, it is impossible to have the slightest doubt about it.
Despite how entertaining and how much I enjoy watching Shokugeki no Soma, I don’t think I will be covering it this season. The genre of the show and the type of content just doesn’t lend itself well to episodic review, this is only the second episode and I feel hard-pressed to find an interesting concept to discuss for the episode. I still highly recommend that everyone and their mother watch the show, it is fantastic. But my lack of culinary knowledge makes it difficult for me to give decent commentary on this one.
