I can’t do it, even though so much money was put into this, even though the art is beautiful, even though the last episode was made to be so epic, I just cannot come to like this show. I simply hated that ending. It was so cheesy, so childish, so full of bullshit that I simply couldn’t get into the episode at all. The show takes everything and tries to stir you emotionally but the show make things so unrelatable and so childish and cheesy that it is simply impossible for me to create a connection with any of the characters.
This episode was supposed to give you little tears on your eyes and to make you sad when Chamber died, to give you a feeling of redemption and badassiness when Pinion tried to sacrifice himself for the good of the fleet and it should have given me goosebumps when I saw the weapon that was on board of the Gargantia since the beginning. Well in the end I watched the episode with only half interest and never really got into the episode. At some point at the beginning of the episode I was really excited about it and I found the action really thrilling and I wished the show was more like this episode. Then not even a quarter of the way into the episode everything became super cheesy and all my hopes and expectations went to shit. This show reminds me so much of Aquarion Evol in the way that it looks awesome, the story is awesome, the characters are awesome, yet somehow they still manage to make the show a terrible experience. Both even are the same genre and work with quite similar emotions and moral dilemmas.
The one thing I am grateful for this last episode is that it didn’t fall into generic man vs machine combat and instead the show had a good resolution on that end. Suisei no Gargantia tried to touch on so many problem and so many dilemmas in only 13 episodes that they nearly all went 100 meters above my head. At the end they explained how on earth both Whalesquids and humans managed to peacefully coexist by dividing the planet in two. The human had the over-world and the Whalesquids had the sea. Well, I just didn’t cared anymore about that story already so it didn’t mattered to me at all how things worked anymore, I just stopped giving a damn about that storyline.
Sidenote, I am the only one who was extremely pissed off that the two robots kept communicated with speech to each other even when communication with human were unnecessary? What kind of inefficient useless machine is this. Hey guys, let’s design super advanced A.I and instead of having them transmit information at impossible speed we’ll make sure they slowly talk and slowly hear other people talking. I mean otherwise it would be way too efficient if that whole conversation took a nanosecond !
I’m glad this show is over, now next week you can read the overall review for the show, I’ll try to make it as unbiased as possible, or at least try to.
