Sword Art Online episode 13: From fishing to death

The days of peace are already over for Kirito and Asuna. It has not been two weeks and the front line desperately needs their help . Sometimes, I wonder if the front line forces will run out one day. They lost 20 men from their recon force, and they lost at least another 5 just from the initial pull of the boss. Speaking of which, how come some people on the front lines are such noobs? I could understand how some players might be unskilled and hesitant in the first few levels, but now they have fought over 60 bosses, each one more difficult than the one before, and yet you still find some noobs like these in the front line?

When I think of the front-line I think of the elite, the pros of the pros, the hardcore. I would never expect some player to stay in the middle of a boss if they are not the tank. I can understand that their lives are at stake, that they don’t know what they are up against, but any half-hardcore player will be able to survive at least the first few seconds against a boss. Furthermore, who would go in so undergeared that they would be one-shotted by an AoE ability of a boss? And why would it be so complicated to understand that there is a tail swipe and a cleave? Here is the usual basic checklist when you are facing a boss in a video game.

  1. Don’t stand in front of him, there may be a cleave or a breath.
  2. If there is a tail, there most likely will be a tail-swipe, so don’t stand on the rear.
  3. Don’t stand in the red circle/fire

Now most of their group seem to have failed 2 of those 3 basics already, and they are supposed to be the best of the best. I’m sure that if that monster were to shoot fire on the ground, some fools would die in it too. At least there are 3 of them that actually have the slightest idea what the hell they are supposed to do, otherwise the whole party would be wiped after only a minute. Having said that, I’m not too sure of the strategy of having 2 dps playing the role of off-tank instead of simply having another decent tank taking their place. I have a feeling that if you don’t have a clue what you are getting into, you should really at least get 3 tanks just to be sure, especially since they don’t seem to have a player cap when they fight a boss.

I think I’m done with my rant about how sucky their group is. I apologize for that, I used to be a raid leader back in the days, so those kind of performances really bring back some terrible memories. Back to the show: I think that it is really interesting to see the rapid shift from vacation to hell. We have spent so much time looking at them enjoying life and fishing that I had forgotten how grim the show could be. It seems that the romance is about to end and the tears on my face will be the result of dramatic and cruel deaths, and not from the intense love Asuna is always demonstrating to Kirito. I’m looking forward to cry because someone I never expected to die does.
