Alright some little change in the programming, it seems that episode 12 isn’t the final episode of Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta at the very least a 13th episode is on the way. This changes a few things in regards to the show sequencing, I feel like now there is even more chance that the show will be completed in 13 episodes. I’m not sure if it was decided during production or if it was always the plan, but now I highly doubt that there will be a second season, I’m pretty sure the whole story will come to an end at the end of the 13 and final episode of this season.
I feel like this episode was a bit rushed, it just seems like the pacing for this episode was increased greatly to be able to wrap up everything. It feels a bit weird that a show which used to be so consistent in its pacing see such a drastic and sudden change to finish everything. I think I would have liked it better if they had more episodes or longer OVA to conclude the show than have it suddenly rush through everything like it did this episode. It seems from the look of the preview that episode 13 will show Ka-el and Claire reunion too, that’s a lot of fast-forwarding all of a sudden. I really just have a feeling that they decided to conclude everything this season and skipped a lot of content just to give us a real ending.
The story has reached a really interesting point that we see in every romance, if the story isn’t over, the two lovers can’t be together. There is another episode left, so we cannot have the happy ending yet, the story cannot go on with a happy couple starting a relationship, we need to have them unable to express their love for a bit longer ! It was really touching to see Nina sacrificing herself for doing the right thing, it is nice to see a powerful and intelligent woman in power for once. Claire might be young, but she sure doesn’t live in a world of fantasy and rainbow like most girl her age. She knows what path to take to become happy in life and she is willing to put the effort and hardship that goes with that path. She is leaving the comfort of her friends and lover to put an end to a raging war and she will take her role as a prophet in the mythos of the sky clan.
Speaking of mythos, as the show goes on I find it increasingly interesting to look at the political and mythical properties of their world and look at the importance of their legend in the way politics works. It is quite interesting to see a world where science and observation tries to verify and prove mythology, rather than our own where mythology always proves to be wrong by science. People heard of prophecies of the end of the world and they decided to look if it were true or not and they manage to learn the truth. At this point their curiosity to learn the truth lead them to play out the prophecy they were told and they become players in the story they are trying to prove. Too bad that I doubt much more of this side of the show will be explored, but it was fun to look at even if just for this episode.
I’m rather curious to see what kind of episode and finale the next episode will bring. Will everything converge towards a real final ending? Or will things end in an unsettled state that suggest a continuation of the story? We will have to watch next episode to find out.
