Uchouten Kazoku episode 1 [First Impression]: Shapeshifting Racoon

Uchouten Kazoku racoon

I’m not even sure how I’m supposed to describe this show, I would say it is some kind of slice of life fantasy, and that is the most accurately that I could describe it right now. The show is about a world where human, tengu and tanuki lives together in harmony in the city and the story follow a little tanuki who helps a tengu with his love for a human…or something like that.

Tanuki can shapeshift, Tengu can fly and it seems like Human can learn to fly at the very least. I really don’t know what to think of this show, I never got into it in the whole 30 minutes. I feel like it simply isn’t a show for me, I never laugh, never got interested in anything, but I can understand how some people could enjoy the show. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the show, there was just so little action and story that I felt it was very difficult to immerse myself. I’m not really a furry either so having shapeshifting animal was more a turn off than a turn on for this show. I find those to be rather childish and unoriginal and therefore when I saw that the show was about animal, mythical creatures and human, I already had lost some of my interest for it.

The show will obviously be all about the characters, their relationship with one another and how they start to understand better who they are and what they want to be, but since I failed to create any attachment to the show during this first episode I really don’t care if any or all of them dies at the beginning of the next episode. I don’t think I can really see what people could possibly like and find interesting in this, but I’m sure someone out there will be completely and love with as it will be the kind of things they were always waiting for. As a Slice of Life hater, this show is absolute boringness.

As you could have guessed from my review, I won’t be watching the show, nor will I recommend it, nor will I blog it. The show isn’t terrible or anything, but I find no purpose in its existence and no reason why that story should be told. Hopefully some Slice of Life lover can come and comment a reason why this show is so interesting and why they feel it could be entertaining…or everyone will just agree that this show is boring, either way.
