Are you shitting me? Another science-fiction/mecha anime this season? We already had some many…and this one is so freaking good ! This show gave me so much more than what I wanted. I thought there were already way enough good show this season, this one could have been “meh” and I would have been happy and I would have watched it. Why did Valvrave the Liberator had to be this good? I already so many things to watch and now this just adds to the lot.
The visual for the show are impressive. You could always tell the emotion on the face of the characters, the enemy fighters looked like an hybrid between star wars empire fighter and a mecha with shields. I’m not sure if I love or hate that design yet. I found it amazing when they looked like star wars fighters, but in their mecha form they look a bit… primitive? On the other hand the main mecha of the show looks like something straight out of 20 years of advanced research. Not only that, but for some reason it seems that the pilot has now even become a zombie or something.
I was not expecting for the lovely Shouko to die so quickly, if anything I was expecting for her to die near the final episode by some crazy fake brother, but I guess that’s beside the point. Now Haruto had such a drastic character change in only a single episode and he is now some kind of zombie. I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen from now on, it is easy to see that Haruto is now somehow immortal, he also stole a high-grade military weapon and he was recorded on camera AND everyone knows who he is now. It is difficult to think that a normal life can still be a possibility for the kid, but after all, he did resign his humanity to begin with.
This show really is Sunrise at its best, you can already see that it is their work simply by looking at the back story for the show. Usually a shitty mecha anime would just explains that there is a war between a faction of human. Sunrise loves to create parallel universes and deeper and richer than they need to be. You can feel the different culture, the different background and the way that foreign affairs are treated. The universe in which the story takes place looks and feels real. That is what makes the biggest difference between a good anime and a seriously amazing one. You could tell me that in X amount of time we would get to a society has the same cultural divide and I would be perfectly able to believe your every words.
I will be watching this anime, I’m a huge Code Geass fan and since Tiger and Bunny it has been a while since Sunrise released a powerful hitting anime like this one. I want to watch it, blog it, make love to it and I wouldn’t even be surprised if I bought the entire box set once the show will be over.
